Over the summer, the Muslim Community Care Foundation (MCCF) hosted a two-month youth program at their office that ran weekly every Friday from 5- 7 pm, aimed at bringing children together through different sorts of activities, recreation, and opportunities to build new friendships. This summer youth program provided children with a regular space to meet up with their friends, socialize with other kids, and participate in a range of activities over the two months. From cookie decorating to movie and game night to many more events that took place, with a focus on creating positive experiences for young people, each session encouraged participants to interact with one another while having fun.
A key goal of the program was to strengthen connections among children in the community. Through group icebreaker games, interactive activities, and team-based experiences, participants had opportunities to work together, meet new people, and develop friendships. The program also offered children the chance to participate in different activities outside of their usual routines. By introducing a variety of experiences, MCCF aimed to keep participants engaged while encouraging teamwork, communication, and participation.
For many of the children, the program became more than simply a summer activity. Returning each week allowed participants to become familiar with one another and develop a stronger sense of belonging. Friendships that began during activities could continue beyond them, helping create connections among children who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet. The program reflects MCCF’s broader focus on creating opportunities for families and young people to connect within the community. Youth programs can provide an important space for children to socialize, develop interpersonal skills, and build relationships in a welcoming environment.
Over the two months, the program brought together children of different ages and backgrounds, creating opportunities for them to learn, play, and participate alongside one another. The range of activities also allowed participants with different interests and personalities to find ways to get involved. As the summer came to an end, the program left participants with new friendships, shared experiences, and memories from the activities they took part in together. For MCCF, the summer youth program was an opportunity to invest in the community’s youngest members while strengthening connections among them. By creating spaces where children can come together, participate, and build friendships, initiatives such as the MCCF Summer Youth Program contribute to a stronger sense of community that can continue well beyond the summer months.
