Strong communities are built by creating spaces where people feel welcomed, valued, and connected. At the Muslim Community Centre Foundation (MCCF), that belief is at the heart of its Seniors Program, a weekly gathering that has become much more than a social activity. It is a place where friendships grow, stories are shared, and community comes to life. Every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., senior women gather at MCCF to enjoy an engaging mix of activities designed to promote wellness, connection, and lifelong learning. Whether participating in gentle exercise, testing their knowledge through games and puzzles, enjoying a lively round of bingo, or simply sitting together over tea and conversation, each week offers an opportunity to stay active while strengthening meaningful relationships.
As our communities continue to grow, so does the importance of creating spaces where seniors can remain socially connected. Many older adults experience loneliness or reduced opportunities for regular social interaction. MCCF's Seniors Program helps address that need by offering a welcoming environment where everyone is greeted by familiar faces and encouraged to participate at their own pace. The atmosphere is one of warmth, inclusion, and mutual support. The program has quickly become a vibrant part of MCCF's community life. What started as a small gathering has grown into a thriving weekly program, welcoming around 30 regular participants. More importantly, it has become a place where lasting friendships have formed. Conversations often continue long after activities end, with participants sharing family stories, exchanging recipes, celebrating birthdays, and supporting one another through life's joys and challenges.
While weekly gatherings remain the foundation of the program, MCCF also believes in creating opportunities for seniors to explore and experience the wider community together. Organized outings, including a memorable day trip to Victoria, have given participants the chance to build new memories while enjoying local history, sightseeing, and each other's company. These experiences strengthen friendships and remind participants that learning, adventure, and connection have no age limit. The Seniors Program reflects MCCF's broader commitment to serving every generation of the community. Alongside youth, family, and community initiatives, the program recognizes that supporting seniors means investing in the health and well-being of the entire community. By creating opportunities for connection, recreation, and lifelong engagement, MCCF continues to foster a sense of belonging that extends across generations. As the program continues to grow, MCCF looks forward to expanding its activities, welcoming new participants, and creating even more opportunities for seniors to stay engaged, active, and connected. Everyone deserves a place where they feel they belong, and each Wednesday, MCCF is proud to help make that a reality.
